Digital Innovation through the Enhanced Fidelity Transonic (EFT) Wing Project

The Enhanced Fidelity Transonic (EFT) Wing Project is a Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Innovate UK and Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) funded project that was led by Airbus and completed in March 2018. Running for four years, with a value of £11.5M, the overall objective of the project was to significantly enhance the performance assessment fidelity of transonic wings, thereby reducing risk and uncertainty in the aircraft design process, and enabling aircraft to be driven to higher performance standards. The project also included the examination and demonstration of various digital-enabling technologies such as Block Chain, Commodity Workflows and Digital Rights Management to facilitate efficient controlled collaboration around Airbus aircraft models. Partners to the project include: CFMS, ARA, and the Universities of Bristol, Cranfield, Liverpool and City University London, supported by Zenotech and Sogeti.
