A demonstration of LOAFS

The layout optimisation and factory simulation framework has been developed as a part of the Tucana project in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover.

CFMS has utilised digital engineering techniques to develop a framework to optimise layouts and workflows between a series of rooms or machines. Our layout optimisation and factory simulation (LOAFS) framework is based on requirements-driven design, meaning the goals and constraints of the layout determine the optimal configuration. The framework has no preconceptions of what a floor plan looks like, so is unbiased by traditional norms when determining the optimal.

It is a flexible framework that can easily be applied to any use case where optimal packing or sleek workflow is required. This framework was recently utilised on a research project involving Jaguar Land Rover amongst other partners. Specifically, it was used to assist with the layout design for a zone of their next-generation manufacturing line on the Tucana project.
