Digital twin technology has a key role to play in optimising the design, development and manufacturing of products across a range of sectors. This can be employed to achieve greater productivity, reduce waste production, and maintain quality throughout composite manufacturing, which can be a varied process with strict requirements. Using a Model Based Engineering (MBE) approach, we worked alongside Ansys, Beckhoff and the National Composites Centre (NCC) to develop a simulator comparing a real-world manufactured piece with its digital counterpart to understand if deformations were a result of the manufacturing process, meaning issues could be prevented in future.
