Graduate Systems Engineer
Department: Model Based Engineering
Reporting to: Head of Engineering
Employment: Permanent
Hours: Full-Time

About the role

The role is suited to an individual who has a background in a STEM subject with an interest in numerical modelling of real world problems.

The Graduate Systems Engineer will have the knowledge, expertise and capability to model physical systems in the engineering lifecycle, including but not limited to: system function, system architecture, detailed product performance modelling and test strategies.

Additionally, an awareness of modelling and simulation methodologies, techniques and tools used within the engineering lifecycle is desired.

Machine Learning Engineer
Department: Robotics and Autonomy
Reporting to: Robotics Team Lead
Employment: Permanent
Hours: Full-Time

About the role

The Machine Learning Engineer’s role will be to develop and implement machine learning models for various robotic, aerospace and energy network applications working on a mix of real and synthetic data. The role will support different types of use cases ranging from image classification on embedded systems to cloud based analysis solutions.

In this role, you will support the design and implementation of a whole pipeline for model training, validation, and from cloud to edge based robotic deployments. This will be applied in a range of exciting and first of a kind applications in several sectors including space exploration, industrial inspection and aerospace.

Research Engineer
Department: Model Based Engineering
Reporting to: Head of Engineering
Employment: Permanent
Hours: Full-Time

About the role

This role is suited to an individual with at least 3 years of post-graduation experience of developing numerical simulations, in either an academic or industrial environment. The Research Engineer will be focussed on developing and implementing novel simulation algorithms and enhancing existing modelling capabilities across a range of domains. They will be expected to identify areas for improvement and take ownership of developing tools to be applied across a range of projects.

The Research Engineer will be expected to use their own initiative, judgement and critical thinking to evaluate candidate approaches and tools to achieve project goals. The role will also include some mentoring of junior colleagues and training new users in tools.

Senior Systems Engineer
Department: Model Based Engineering
Reporting to: Head of Engineering
Employment: Permanent
Hours: Full-Time

About the role

This role is suited to an individual with at least 5 year’s experience of working with customers to solve engineering challenges in an industrial environment.

The Senior Systems Engineer will be focussed on working with customers to identify, capture and refine requirements, convert this into a simulation architecture and lead the development of novel simulations to solve engineering challenges across a range of domains. They will be expected to take ownership of projects and plan and deliver them in coordination with the team’s project manager.

Student Internship - Engineering 2024/25
Department: Model Based Engineering

About the role

We work with companies who are experienced in the use of mathematical modelling and also those wanting to make greater use of simulation to tackle interesting and challenging modelling problems. We also work closely with academics and technology partners to create and evaluate new modelling algorithms and techniques and how they scale and apply to High Performance Computing (HPC).

As an engineering undergraduate intern with a requirement to undertake a year in industry and looking for experience in an industrial environment, depending on your background and interest, you will work closely with our team of experts across systems engineering, mathematical modelling and simulation, data analytics, advanced IT systems and HPC, to develop and prove new digital capabilities.

Student Internship - Software Engineer 2024-2025
Department: ECS
Reporting to: Head of Engineering Computer Services
Employment: Student Internship - 1 year
Hours: Full time

About the role

We work with companies who are experienced in the use of mathematical modelling and those wanting to make greater use of simulation. We collaborate closely with academics and technology partners to create and evaluate new modelling algorithms and techniques, and how these scale and apply to High Performance Computing (HPC).

This role is suited to an undergraduate with a requirement to undertake a year in industry and looking for experience in an industrial environment. It will be focussed on developing and deploying software that is used across the organisation and underpins the simulation work we do. The role will primarily involve using software engineering techniques to implement required functionality, using web-based frameworks, databases, containerisation, and a broad array  of other technologies as appropriate.

You will be exposed to an assortment of modern tools and technologies that are used to control the deployment and usage of hardware within CFMS. The tools will be developed into robust software, integrated with other existing applications, and deployed across diverse compute resources.
