letter Autumn/Winter 2019 Newsletter
Welcome!

In this issue, as the weather gets colder, snow is already on our mind! Davide Bianchi, Head of Advanced Simulation at CFMS, talks about the world’s first 3D-printed snowboard bindings that he and his team developed for Darren Swift, a former British Army soldier and double above the knee amputee (DAK). We Shine the Spotlight on Dr. Lisa Brodie, Head of Engineering Design and Mathematics at the University of the West of England (UWE), and meet award-winning Sensor City, a global hub for the development of sensor technology and rapid prototyping. Ian Risk, CTO at CFMS discusses why the UK needs to adopt high value design capabilities urgently to avoid losing out to global competitors. Lastly, we warmly welcome you all to join us at our last event of 2019, ‘The Engineering Behind the World’s First Snowboard Bindings’, taking place on 3rd Dec, 10-14.00hrs at CFMS, with guest speakers including Darren Swift, HiETA Technologies, and the National Composites Centre (NCC).
