The Centre for Modelling and Simulation (CFMS) will be hosting the first UK OpenFOAM User Day at Bristol and Bath Science Park. Taking place on 20th and 21st November 2014, the aim of the event is to promote the collaboration and exchange of information between users in the UK and Ireland of Foam-extend/OpenFOAM® software.
OpenFOAM® is a free, open source Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software package developed by OpenCFD Ltd, owned by ESI Group. The Foam-extend release is the community edition of OpenFOAM where users contribute models and solvers and extend the code base.
Delivered over the course of one and a half days, the event provides delegates with the opportunity to take part in two training sessions. Organiser of the event, Prof. Hrvoje Jasak, Wikki UK says, “this is the first event of its kind in the UK which will provide the opportunity to share progress, learn best practice and develop further skills.” Training topics include ‘How to write OpenFOAM applications and get on in CFD’ presented by Prof. Gavin Tabor, University of Exeter and ‘Dynamic Mesh Features in FOAM’ delivered by Prof. Hrvoje Jasak. Presentations from Arup, Engys, Shell, University of Sheffield and University College Dublin will be delivered during the event.
David Standingford, Lead Technologist, CFMS,“ We’re delighted to be hosting and taking part in the OpenFOAM User Group event. This is a great opportunity for the Foam-extend/OpenFOAM community to share experience, discuss current issues and develop solutions together.”
The event commences on the afternoon of 20th November where the training sessions will be delivered, followed by an evening dinner. On the second day, delegates will have the opportunity to present their own foam-extend/OpenFOAM projects, in addition to taking part in an open forum of discussion topics. The Centre for Modelling and Simulation (CFMS) provides access to an on demand computing cluster, which enables organisations to predict and analyse the behaviour of new systems and products under development using advanced simulation tools.
CFMS provide a neutral area for large and small companies to collaborate and use these tools to examine their technologies while in the design phase, delivering significant time and cost savings.
