The eagerly anticipated results of the prestigious 2014 ERCOFTAC (European Research Commission on Flow and Turbulence Combustion) da Vinci Awards have been announced. Representing the University of Cambridge, UK, Duncan Hewitt is the confirmed winner for his paper on ‘Convection in Porous Media, and Implications for CO2 Sequestration’.
Duncan was one of five finalists throughout Europe shortlisted for the da Vinci award with the finals taking place at the 2014 ERCOFTAC Autumn Festival in Rouen, France. Judged on scientific merit and presentation quality by a distinguished industry panel, the finalists each presented a summary of the research submitted.

A platform for the most talented international PhD students to present research on flow, turbulence and combustion, Pilot Centres internationally are invited to nominate outstanding research studies of PhD students or recent graduates. The five finalists shortlisted for the 2014 awards represented Italy, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Sweden and Germany.
The ERCOFTAC Association promotes the joint efforts between research institutes and industry, with the objective of exchanging technical and scientific information concerning all aspects of flow, turbulence and combustion.
