CFMS demonstrates digital methods and tools for industrial design and manufacture

Bristol, 16th July 2018 - The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS), a specialist in digitally enabled high value design, will be presenting three exhibit areas at Farnborough International Airshow, taking place at Farnborough Airport, Hampshire (16-22 July).

CFMS is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that specialises in digitally enabled high value design. The CFMS digital test bed provides a trusted, neutral and secure physical and virtual environment, working with enterprises to facilitate a greater understanding of how a product will perform throughout its lifecycle. The feasibility of design and manufacture options can be rapidly evaluated prior to any physical development through use of a virtual environment or digital test bed. To do this efficiently, requires agile computational resources to investigate methods and tools capable of replicating the physical functionality of a system which can be benchmarked against data from existing or future operations.

Farnborough International Airshow (FIA 2018) is a week-long event that combines a major trade exhibition for the global aerospace and defence industry. The first five days are dedicated exclusively to trade, consisting of six trade halls and an outdoor exhibition, with the final two days open to the public. FIA is the biggest global aerospace and defence event, with over 1,500 exhibitors and 100,000 trade visitors expected to attend during the first five days.

Visit CFMS at stand 4822 in Hall 4 to see:

  • Virtual Reality Showcase: highlighting the use of a simulated or artificial environment, immersing the user inside experiences, including an aircraft engine, aircraft landing gear, and smart office/city environments
  • Digital Twin Technology Showcase: highlighting the potential for bringing together design and manufacture, to deliver consistently high-quality, good products
  • AI Driven Autonomous Inspection: demonstrating the use of computer vision and artificial intelligence technologies for visual inspection, to automatically detect defects captured by a drone or a crawling robot

“We’re delighted to be at Farnborough International Airshow, where we can demonstrate the breadth of activities CFMS is able to offer within high-value design and manufacturing,” said Sam Paice, Chief Operating Officer, CFMS. “Digital technologies are not just about having a CAD model of your product –they’re about connecting design, development and manufacture tool chains through a digital thread offering insight and understanding of how the product will operate throughout its lifecycle.”

About CFMS

The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS) is a not-for-profit specialist in high-value design. As a trusted and neutral provider, our vision is to be the recognised, independent, digital test bed for the design of high value engineering products and processes.

Facilitating a greater understanding of how a product will perform throughout its lifecycle, our digital test bed forms the foundation for Through-Life Engineering, creating a virtual replica of systems and processes used for investigation of options and opportunities, in advance of physical development.

Through our four core product lines and activities, we enable our customers to accelerate design and manufacturing productivity and competitiveness for their products, processes and services;

  • Accelerated insight into the performance of their products or processes in service through the use of advanced modelling and simulation
  • Integrated system engineering architectures that can deliver improved
  • Realisation of the potential of simulated or real-world data for informed decision making
  • Cost effective access to state-of the art computational infrastructure
