The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS) will be holding a dissemination event for the ATI project “Future Engineering System” (FES), taking place at CFMS on 25th June 2018, 10.00 - 14.00.
The event will disseminate the progress of the FES project to date which has been running for two years, and will provide a forum for interested industry users to seek further insight and understanding on advances in digital and model based engineering systems.
With a project value of £4.22m, FES began on 1st April 2016 and will run for three years, completing in 2019. The project is supported by the joint industry and government aerospace R&D funding programme, delivered as a partnership between the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS), the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) and Innovate UK.
FES brings together CFMS, aerospace prime Rolls-Royce, leading global engineering and technology services company Siemens, systems integrator Sysemia and digital quality specialist eQ-Technologic with academic specialists from Sheffield University and the Leeds University Socio-Technical Centre. The consortium are investigating an integrated software toolchain and process to develop and manage product design maturity from initial concept and customer engagement to product requirements to detailed design.
The steps of product development covered in FES are: concept of operations, stakeholder mapping, use case derivation, requirements formalisation and decomposition, functional architecture and quality function deployment, system architecture and decomposition, behavioural modelling and analysis.
These steps are integrated in a collaborative working environment with a design dashboard that reports progress against the requirements, design feasibility and cost estimation.
The event will consist of presentations from Leeds University, Cray, University of Sheffield and Siemens disseminating progress from the project to date. The event will comprise a series of presentations that cover the key elements in the FES project, interspersed by networking intervals to allow delegates to digest and discuss information.
