Bristol, UK, 27th October 2015 ... The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS) today announced the company has joined the OpenPOWER Foundation, an open development community based on the POWER microprocessor architecture.
CFMS joins a growing roster of technology organisations working collaboratively to build advanced server, networking, storage and acceleration technology as well as industry leading open source software aimed at delivering more choice, control and flexibility to developers of next-generation, hyperscale and cloud data centres. The group makes POWER hardware and software available to open development for the first time, as well as making POWER intellectual property licensable to others, greatly expanding the ecosystem of innovators on the platform.
CFMS is an independent, not-for-profit specialist in high value design that supports the development of new design methods, providing access to modelling and simulation consultancy, a High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster and best in class technologies, that enables organisations to advance engineering design capability.
Sam Paice, Chief Operating Officer, CFMS, “As an independent and neutral organisation, becoming a member of the OpenPOWER Foundation resonates with our aim of promoting an open, shared technology environment that encourages the sharing of knowledge, and best practice expertise and helps organisations to advance.”
"The OpenPOWER Foundation welcomes CFMS as our newest member," says Brad McCredie, OpenPOWER President and IBM Fellow. "We look forward to collaborating with CFMS on POWER's open architecture, a technology platform to move the state of the art forward on existing and emerging workloads."
