The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS) will be hosting ‘Pointwise: High Quality Meshing for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)’ on 20th November 2015, between 10.00 - 15.30.
Taking place at CFMS, Bristol & Bath Science Park, Pointwise, a developer of software used for grid generation and preprocessing for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) will be holding an event targeted towards industrial users of commercial & open source CFD software, and organisations with a general interest in CFD.
Delivered by Dr Richard J. Matus, Vice President, Pointwise Inc and John Stone, Partner, CFD Technologies, delegates will be able to experience first-hand how Pointwise allows the user full control of the mesh, to build high quality structured grids in the essential parts of the model and unstructured grids elsewhere. Many companies have a desire to improve the accuracy, and hence reliability, of their CFD simulations. Improving the quality of the mesh is the first step to achieving this. Pointwise will be demonstrating how the TRex meshing feature quickly builds large hybrid grids for complex geometries in just minutes. Geometry handling tools in Pointwise greatly reduces the CAD2CFD bottleneck associated with other software.
Through its development centre and collaborative facility, CFMS supports the delivery of new design methods and processes, providing access to specialist skills and best in class technologies. Sam Paice, Chief Operating Officer, CFMS commented, “ Our vision is to enable organisations to develop engineering design capability, increasing product knowledge and skills by providing access to key industry partners like Pointwise.”

The Centre for Modelling and Simulation (CFMS) is an independent, not-for-profit specialist in modelling and simulation. We support the UK delivery of new design methods and processes.
Through our development centre and state-of-the-art facility, we offer specialist skills, resource and access to best in class technologies to enable organisations to achieve significant advances in design processes.
At the heart of innovation, we bridge the gap between industry, academia and the research supply chain, facilitating collaboration, shaping the development agenda’s of industrial process users and capability suppliers.
As a trusted and neutral provider, our vision is to drive a revolution in engineering capability and design, working with organisations to reduce risk in the design phase, product development costs and time to market.
Pointwise Inc is solving the top problem facing CFD today - reliably generating high-fidelity meshes. The company's Pointwise software generates structured, unstructured and hybrid meshes; interfaces with CFD solvers, such as ANSYS FLUENT, STAR-CCM+, ANSYS CFX, OpenFOAM, and SU2 as well as many neutral formats, such as CGNS; runs on Windows (Intel and AMD), Linux (Intel and AMD), and Mac, and has a scripting language, Glyph, that can automate CFD meshing. Large manufacturing firms and research organizations worldwide rely on Pointwise as their complete CFD preprocessing solution.
