CFMS to hold DrivAer Workshop Automotive Event

CFMS to hold DrivAer Workshop Automotive Event

The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS) has announced it will be holding the DrivAer Automotive Workshop event on 10th May 2016 between 10.00 - 13.00 hours.

For many years the Ahmed Body and the SAE Body have been used as the benchmark for automotive aerodynamics. A new benchmark is now available called DrivAer, produced by Technische Universitat Munchen. Far more complex geometry than has been considered previously and more representative of a real car, CFMS and partners have undertaken work to enable the use of standard meshing tools utilised for advanced modelling and simulation.

The DrivAer Workshop event is targeted towards organisations who would like to assess their own tools and gain access to the DrivAer geometry which has been de-featured for CFD, and can be used to validate methods produced. Delegates will also have the opportunity to learn more about the latest techniques and advances for meshing tools.

Taking place at Bristol and Bath Science Park, delegates will hear about the work that CFMS and partners have undertaken on DrivAer Test Case, and includes an *open invitation to access the latest test results post the event, including geometry, meshes and results for comparison. The event will also discuss the merits of open collaboration and how to progress the industry beyond the current methodologies to drive best practice forward.

Sam Paice, Chief Operating Officer, CFMS, “The DrivAer Test Case is a new benchmark where we have selected three specific areas of the test case for further study that build up the complexities. This is an excellent opportunity to validate the latest methods developed by organisations against experimental data.”

As, a growing, independent, not-for-profit specialist in high value design capability, CFMS supports the formulation and dissemination of information, and progress on the industrialisation of newly developed methods.

The DrivAer Workshop Automotive Event commences with registration at 10.00 hours. For more information and to register for the event, click here. If you would like to be added to the distribution list for CFMS events and newsletters, email

*Test Result Access

Access to the test results will be made available upon delegate agreement to share with CFMS,  the results from validation of their own methods.

About CFMS

The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS) is proud to be a growing, independent and not-for-profit organisation that specialises in high value design capability. We promote advanced modelling and simulation, underpinned by HPC, pushing the boundaries of technology.

Through our exceptional, collaborative, virtual and physical facility, we enable the adoption and acceleration of new technologies for advanced modelling and simulation, while improving learning and developing awareness of state-of-the-art.Engaging with organisations large and small, we help to provide access to the right tools, resources, skills and technologies, resulting in increased productivity and faster, more informed decision-making.

As a trusted and neutral provider, our vision is to drive a practical revolution in engineering capability and design, working with organisations to reduce risk in the design phase, product development costs and time to market.
