The 14th ERCOFTAC (European Research Community On Flow Turbulence and Combustion) Osborne Reynolds Student Award Day and Poster Session is taking place at Manchester University, George Begg Building on 14th July 2016. This prestigious award celebrates the quality of young UK researchers who are pursuing doctoral-level research across the broad domain of fluid mechanics, including combustion, acoustics, convective heat or mass transfer, turbulence, multi-phase, stratified and free surface flows.
The competition is judged by a panel of senior fluids researchers. The winner, runner-up and third-placed finalists, will receive prizes of £500, £250 and £100 and the opportunity to present at the European ERCOFTAC da Vinci Award, taking place at the Autumn Festival. For the Poster Session, entrants are invited to submit A0 posters, to be judged on the day of the event. Entries for both activities are welcomed from schools of engineering, physics, mathematics or environmental sciences.
ERCOFTAC are also holding a UK Industry Day on 7th July which will see the UK flow, turbulence and combustion community across industry and academia gather together to consider challenges and collaborative opportunities. Held at The Centre for Modelling and Simulation (CFMS) at Bristol and Bath Science Park, the theme for the event is ‘Using big data technology to correlate and validate fluid dynamics simulations with experimental and through-life data sources’.
To register to attend the Osborne Reynolds Student Award and Poster Session event, visit the event registration page. For more information about entering the Student Award and Poster Day, contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Entry to both competition is open to current PhD-registered students at a UK university and PhD graduates from a UK university who graduated post June 2015. The deadline for the submission of abstracts for the Student Award is 17.00, 6th May 2016.
The ERCOFTAC Association promotes the joint efforts between research institutes and industry, with the objective of exchanging technical and scientific information concerning all aspects of flow, turbulence and combustion. The European Research Community On Flow, Turbulence And Combustion (ERCOFTAC) was created in 1988 with the aim of promoting joint efforts of research institutes and industries who are active in all aspects of Flow, Turbulence and Combustion. With the objective of exchanging technical and scientific information concerning basic and applied research, and the development, validation and maintenance of numerical codes and databases, ERCOFTAC membership is open to all research groups from academic and government to industrial organisations worldwide.
