As a student engineer, depending on your background and interests, you will work closely with our team of experts across systems engineering, mathematical modelling and simulation, advanced IT systems and HPC, to develop and prove new digital capabilities.
You’ll take on a 12-month project that will give you the chance to use some of the latest technology and engineering tools. Part of the project will include presenting to the team and discussing your initial project and over time, you’ll present again your progress.
Examples of typical projects within your placement year:
Development of bespoke numerical models of physical systems
Validation of open source and commercial tools to solve challenges
Development of Virtual Reality (VR) models of engineering scenarios
Over the 12 months of your placement year, you will help to shape the future of the real world and will gain responsibility for real-life projects. The focus of the placement is on developing and implementing numerical models to solve challenges using maths, science, engineering and computing.
Depending on your interests and background, elements of your placement year could include:
Supporting CFMS technical teams with the development, testing, and benchmarking activities
Modelling physical phenomena using a range of bespokely developed and off the shelf tools, developing capabilities where they are missing
Development of new algorithms, methods, and tools to meet real world challenges
