HS2 is Britain’s new high speed rail line being built from London to the North-West. Within the development of the HS2 high speed rail link, they aimed to reduce any impact on local flood defences by the addition of the new train line. For this HS2 project, they required CFMS to support in the optimisation of earthworks for flood prevention in Staffordshire.
Using 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to build models provided more information and technical data – ultimately portraying a more detailed understanding of the environmental impact of floods on the potential site. One of the granular simulations enabled the HS2 engineering team to revise its original plans for flood defences, optimising the planned multi-million pound earthworks.
