Placements & Graduates

Deliver real projects, develop skills and prepare for life beyond graduation.

Providing a supportive environment where individuals can develop their knowledge and skills on real-world projects is essential. Our placement and graduate programmes provide opportunities to interface with customers, taking theoretical understanding and turning it into tangible solutions.

Following comprehensive training, both programmes see individuals deployed onto commercial and research projects, working with team members to develop technical and interpersonal skills.

We encourage students from all STEM backgrounds to apply. Our placement applications open in October for the following September start. Graduate programmes open and close throughout the year. We are always open to speculative applications.

Placement applications open for the following September

Applying for placement and graduate roles can be daunting. We want to hear from you about how you’d approach solving a complex challenge, rather than your academic accolades.

Step 1: Apply

Submit your CV and a covering letter to explain why you want to work in engineering and what interests you about CFMS.

Step 2: Informal chat

If your CV is of interest, we will organise an informal chat. This is a short chat with a member of the hiring team to get to know you better and for you to get to know us better.

Step 3: Interview

We will then invite you to an interview. This is at our Bristol office, going through your experience and approach to solving complex engineering challenges. These are normally around 45 minutes long.

Step 4: Offer

If your interview is successful, we will then send you an offer. This will agree a start date, outline any conditions of employment and other key information.

STEM outreach

Excitement for engineering starts young - we work with schools to inspire.

We’re on a mission to find the engineers, technologists, mathematicians and scientists of tomorrow. Our dedicated KS3 programme explores the world of design and systems engineering, with opportunities to get hands on with some of the tech that enables us to do digital engineering.

For KS4, we offer work experience. These week-long placements see students supported by one of our junior engineers. They get the chance to deliver their choice of project from a range of scenarios.

STEM learning doesn’t stop there. For A-Level and T-Level students, we’re able to provide opportunities for work experience ranging from a week all the way up to the 315-hour T-Level requirement.

Apply for a placement

Applications for placement years are currently closed. Placements are 1-year long, and are designed for those looking to complete a year in industry as a part of their degree.

Graduate roles

Our graduate pathway is designed to give you breadth across CFMS’s capability areas and develop your professional skills. Find out what it looks like.
