We’re excited to host two panel events at this year’s Bristol Technology Festival. These panels look to address some of the challenges we face as a technological society from high-value digital engineering through to careers and the growing digital skills gap. This year’s Bristol Technology Festival is highlighting 5 key themes across the week. Our panels reflect these themes on their respective days, bringing focus to these important themes.

Digital Modelling and Prediction: Missed Opportunities - Could We Do More?
Monday 7th October
11.15 – 12.15 @ WECA, 70 Redcliff Street, Bristol, BS1 6AL
As we confront some of the most complex and multifaceted challenges in industry and society, the ability to predict outcomes and devise innovative solutions is more critical than ever. Research shows that only 0.5% of large-scale, major projects deliver on time, on budget and deliver expected benefits. There is a strong motivation to do better.
This panel session will delve into the nature of these challenges, what’s required to help solve them and how innovation in some key areas can bring positive change.
Who’s Going to Do That? Bridging the Digital Skills Gap
Friday 11th October
10:00 – 11:00 @ Engine Shed, Station Approach, Redcliffe, BS1 6QH
There’s a growing skills gap in the technology and engineering industry. Fewer young people are looking to pursue careers in this space with increasing barriers to entry and a lack of easily accessible information regarding the kinds of careers available. With the rise of new technologies, the skills the workforce requires are evolving and the need for greater discourse between educators and employers to identify these needs is growing.
This panel will discuss the skills gap and what organisations can do to support and encourage young people into STEM careers, as well as looking at how the future of digital industries will require a generation of highly talented young people from all backgrounds.
We look forward to seeing you there.
