The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS) will be exhibiting at Farnborough International Airshow (FIA 2018), taking place at Farnborough Airport, Hampshire. The CFMS exhibition stand can be found in hall 4 stand 4822.
FIA is a week-long event that combines a major trade exhibition for the global aerospace and defence industry held between 16th-22nd July. The first five days are dedicated exclusively to trade, consisting of six trade halls and an outdoor exhibition, with the final two days open to the public. FIA is the biggest global aerospace and defence event, with over 1,500 exhibitors and 100,000 trade visitors attending during the first five days.
In the new digital and data driven economy, enhancing product performance and efficiency, while reducing time to market and cost requires a range and skills and capabilities. Investigating the feasibility of design and manufacture options can be rapidly evaluated prior to any physical development through use of a virtual environment or digital test bed. To do this efficiently, requires agile computational resources to investigate methods and tools capable of replicating the physical functionality of a system which can be benchmarked against data from existing or future operations.
The CFMS digital test bed provides a trusted, neutral and secure physical and virtual environment, working with organisations to facilitate a greater understanding of how a product will perform throughout its lifecycle.
At FIA, CFMS presents three exhibit areas demonstrating digital methods and tools that can be utilised within industrial design and manufacture:
Virtual Reality Showcase: highlighting the use of a simulated or artificial environment, immersing the user inside experiences including an aircraft engine, aircraft landing gear and smart office/city environments
Digital Twin Technology Showcase: highlighting the potential for bringing together design and manufacture, to deliver consistently high quality good products
AI Driven Autonomous Inspection: demonstrating the use of computer vision and artificial intelligence technologies for visual inspection, to automatically detect defects captured by a drone, or a crawling robot
