The World’s First 3D-Printed Snowboard Bindings

Army veteran Darren Swift (Swifty), the first double above-knee (DAK) amputee in the world to compete in International Paralympic Committee (IPC) events approached CFMS to help create a new set of bindings ahead of the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games. Darren’s home-made bindings were painful, and the lack of information in this area meant design was challenging. This example shows how we developed and tested bespoke binding designs using the latest digital technology. This approach, which can be used across a variety of sectors, provided flexibility and reduced costs for design, testing and manufacturing.
